When the color you want already exists in a photograph, interface, product image, or the world around you, sampling is more reliable than naming it by eye. HexCheck lets you choose a point or sampling area, inspect the resulting color, and continue that value into the rest of the color workflow.

From pixels to usable color values

An image color picker converts the sampled pixels into a digital color value that can be reused in CSS, design software, documentation, or a palette. HEX is convenient for web work, while RGB and HSL make the same color easier to reason about in other contexts.

A single pixel can be affected by compression, antialiasing, noise, highlights, or shadows. When a surface contains small variations, an averaged sampling area can represent the intended color more reliably than one isolated pixel.

What to do with the sampled color

After sampling, inspect the color on its permanent HexCheck page or test it against a foreground or background in Contrast. If the sample is meant to guide a larger visual system, open it in Palette or Gradient rather than treating the first picked value as the finished design.

Remember that a sampled screen value describes the pixels in the image. Physical paint, fabric, cosmetics, print, and lighting can reproduce color differently, so use domain-specific matching tools when the final result leaves the screen.

How do I get a HEX color from an image?

Open or upload the image, sample the point or area you want, and HexCheck converts the sampled RGB pixels into a HEX value you can inspect or reuse.

Why can nearby pixels have different colors?

Photos and screenshots contain antialiasing, compression, texture, lighting, noise, and gradients. Sampling an area can help when you want the representative color rather than one pixel.

Is a picked screen color the same as a paint or fabric color?

Not necessarily. A digital sample is an RGB screen value. Physical materials also depend on pigments, surface properties, illumination, and viewing conditions.
