Workspace, persistence, and account state
HexCheck remembers each tool independently. Returning to Palette restores the palette, returning to Gradient restores the gradient, and neither one should reset the other.
Understand the three kinds of state

Changing tool state is automatic. Creating saved library items is an explicit action and is generally part of Pro.
What each tool remembers

Guides and account pages are excluded from generic tool-state capture.Reading a guide or changing account settings does not become a resumable color workspace.
When you are signed out
HexCheck can keep supported tool state in this browser under an anonymous workspace key. That makes normal back-and-forth use practical without requiring an account.
- The state stays on this browser and device.
- Clearing site data or using a private window can remove it.
- It does not become a saved cloud library.
- The signed-out appearance default is always Light, even when the device uses Dark mode.
Browser persistence is convenience, not backup.Use a saved Pro library or exported file for work you cannot afford to lose.
When you are signed in
HexCheck scopes preferences and tool-state caches to the account identity. Signing into another account on the same computer should not inherit the first account’s appearance or account workspace.
A signed-in account provides:
- Profile and security settings.
- Account-specific appearance and workflow preferences.
- A Dashboard that can resume supported tool work.
- User-specific local state for fast restoration.
- Account workspace records when supported by the feature and entitlement.
Pro adds the durable production workspace.Cloud-saved libraries, synchronized histories, saved scans, favorites, Brand Kits, and production exports are Pro features even when a tool’s current working state can be remembered automatically.
Shared URLs take priority for that visit
A URL can carry explicit state. When it does, HexCheck opens the state in the link instead of silently replacing it with your remembered workspace.

After an additive handoff succeeds, HexCheck removes the temporary add parameter and saves the merged state.
Use the Dashboard to resume work
The signed-in Dashboard is a command center rather than a wall of saved items.
- Active Color matches the color shown in the global header.
- Resume a workspace opens supported tools as you last left them.
- Quick Start uses additive Contrast, Palette, and Gradient actions.
- Workspace Overview summarizes saved-library counts and plan state.
- Recent Activity shows useful cloud workspace events.
- Saved Libraries remain collapsed until you choose to browse them.
Appearance and workflow preferences
Account Settings includes:
- System, Light, or Dark appearance.
- Comfortable or compact interface density.
- System, reduced, or full motion.
- Default color format: HEX, RGB, HSL, or OKLCH.
- Uppercase or lowercase copied hex.
- Whether copied hex includes
#. - Copy-on-click behavior in supported tools.
- Default AA or AAA contrast target.
The appearance is applied across the site, including the shared header. It does not override the live background color of the Color Utility or the colors being inspected in previews.
Theme changes avoid a double paint.HexCheck waits for the account preference before revealing the page, preventing a Dark-to-Light or Light-to-Dark flash during normal loading.
Use HexCheck on shared and multiple devices
- Sign out when another person will use the same browser profile.
- Use separate browser or operating-system profiles for stronger separation.
- Do not rely on anonymous browser state to appear on another device.
- Use Pro saved libraries and account sync for durable cross-device work.
- Use shared URLs when another person needs one exact color, pair, palette, or gradient.
- Download production exports when the state must exist outside HexCheck.
When a page does not restore what you expected
- Check whether the URL contains explicit colors or filters. Explicit links override remembered state.
- Confirm you are signed into the intended account.
- Wait for the shared header and account appearance to finish loading.
- Check whether the state is a working workspace or a separately saved Pro library item.
- Remember that uploaded images and live camera feeds are intentionally not restored.
- If browser site data was cleared, anonymous and local cached state may no longer exist.
